Frequently asked questions
- How is BMI calculated?
- BMI is your weight in kilograms divided by the square of your height in meters. For example, 65 kg at 1.70 m gives 65 divided by 2.89, or about 22.5.
- What do the result categories mean?
- It follows the WHO classification: under 18.5 is underweight, 18.5 to 25 is normal weight, 25 to 30 is overweight, and 30 or above is obese.
- Is BMI reliable for athletes and bodybuilders?
- Not really. BMI cannot tell muscle from fat, so very muscular people may be labeled overweight. The tool itself notes that BMI is a rough indicator, not a diagnosis.
- Can I enter pounds and inches?
- Not at the moment. The calculator takes centimeters and kilograms only, so convert first (1 inch is 2.54 cm and 1 pound is about 0.45 kg).
