Frequently asked questions

How is compound interest calculated here?
Each year the current balance earns the annual rate, and your yearly contributions are added after the interest. The tool shows the final value, the total you contributed and the interest earned.
Are my monthly contributions compounded monthly?
No. Interest compounds once per year, and the monthly contribution is added as a yearly lump sum. True monthly compounding would produce a slightly higher final value.
Why does the year-by-year table stop early?
For long horizons only the most recent 12 years are shown, which keeps the output readable while still displaying your latest growth.
What can I use this calculator for?
It is a good way to see how regular saving grows over time, for example retirement contributions, index fund investing or a savings goal with fixed monthly deposits.
