How is the final price calculated?

The discount is subtracted from the original price first, then any tax you enter is added on top, so the final price reflects sale price plus tax.

When should I use the tax field?

Use it when sales tax or VAT is added at checkout after the discount. Leave it at zero if your displayed prices already include tax.

Can I apply two discounts in a row?

This tool takes one discount at a time. To stack offers, run the first discount, then use the resulting price as the original price for the second.

Does it show how much I save?

Yes. The savings amount and the final price are both displayed, and the tax portion is broken out separately when you enter a rate.
