- Why does pitch increase material?
- A sloped roof covers more surface than the flat footprint under it. The multiplier is √(1 + (rise/12)²).
- What waste factor is right?
- 15% for simple gable roofs, 20% or more for hips, valleys and dormers where cuts are heavy.
- What else should I order?
- Starter strip, ridge caps, underlayment, flashing and vents. Ridge cap is usually about one bundle per 35 linear feet.
